A chairde, regarding all of the residential infill zonings I propose that rights of way (as the bird flies) into the town centre should be prioritised in every housing development. This is a top priority in order to get people out of cars and back walking and cycling for climate chaos reasons, safety reasons and for health reasons. Children and adults will not get back to walking to town, school or anywhere while our roads remain clogged up with dangerous cars and pollution. I also propose that Beechlawn road be added to the town sewerage scheme. Bicycle lock up parking facilities are required around the town also. Also all business developments must prorities the safety of pedestrians. I was almost knocked down twice while walking to Tesco from the Shearwater side, passing through the roundabout and arriving at Tesco carpark where there is simply no footpath for pedestrians to walk on. This is evidence of car culture being dominant over us and how our whole worlds are designed around cars. However, pollution from the cars is now choking our planet unfortunately.
regarding all residential infills and all rezoned areas- existing native trees on sites that are more than 10 years old must be left on side or moved with a large digger bucket with roots intact in soil, and replanted safely. Native or naturalised trees over 30 years old must never be cut down and protected in law. We should have tree planting at every opportunity and in every green area ( apart for sports fields which are also necessary) to lock up carbon and stem the awful reality of climate chaos and mass extinction of species. Tree experts must be consulted on these issues.
