Welcome to the public consultation process for the enhancement of Ballygaddy Park in Tuam Town. The attached information panels explain the draft plan and proposed enhancement. We invite you the public to have your say to help make the best possible Ballygaddy Park plan for Tuam town.
Project outline
A public space already exists on the Ballygaddy Road in Tuam, however it is currently predominantly a grassed area. It is located next to 300 houses and within 800m of the town centre.
A design for the enhancement of the park has been completed by a landscape architect.
The proposed park enhancement will involve-
• Proposed pathways constructed from exposed aggregate concrete,
• Creating loop walks around the park, and intermittent informal play features, and seating/rest locations.
• Seating areas for community engagement,
• Dynamic play areas,
• Biodiversity planting with native species and wildflower spaces.
Extent of Benefits of Park Enhancement
• It aims to achieve a greener, healthier, safer, beautiful, sustainable, equitable, harmonious, and wilder environment where people value,
benefit from, and are strongly connected to the rest of nature.
• A place where people can walk in a safe, clean and green landscape, to have free and easy access to high quality green space.
• To improve the richness, connectivity and biodiversity of Tuam habitats.
• The Park will offer a fantastic mix of biodiversity measures, outdoor seating areas, disabled accessibility , outdoor gym equipment,
children’s playgrounds.
• Promotes physical activity through creating spaces for play, recreation, walking and cycling within a safe environment.
Specific Development Proposals
The proposed enhancement of the park will consist of:
• The erection of park entrance signage at the main entrance to the site.
• Proposed pedestrian crossing, and new park access point.
• 3 piece Balance Beam and Play Boulders for informal play with Locally Sourced Boulders.
• 10 x Waterlilies Balance Posts & Play Boulders for informal play
• Feature Wildflower grass mounds, low frequency mowing regime
• Feature Low Seasonal Ornamental Planting Strip forming a spine throughout the park
• Proposed pathways constructed from exposed aggregate concrete, creating loop walks around the park, and intermittent informal play
features, and seating/rest locations.
• Seating Area for rest, and community engagement
• Relocation of existing goalposts
