NOTICE OF PROPOSED VARIATION NO.1 TO THE GALWAY COUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2022 – 2028

Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 13 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) that Galway County Council being the Planning Authority of the County of Galway has prepared a Proposed Variation (Proposed Variation No.1) to the Galway County Development Plan 2022 – 2028.  

The reason for the Proposed Variation No. 1 is in response to ‘The National Planning Framework’s First Revision 2025’ and the ‘Section 28 Guidelines on NPF Implementation – Housing Growth Requirements’ and for rectification of land use zoning map for Oranmore.

The Proposed Variation includes the following elements:

Proposed Variation No.1:

Part A: Review and update of the existing Housing Strategy and Housing Need and Demand Assessment of the Galway County Development Plan with associated updates to the County Development Plan.

Part B: Updates to existing Policy Objectives and narrative in the County Development Plan which will place a renewed focus on Residential Phase 2 lands in the County.

Part C:  Rectification of Land use Zoning Map for Oranmore.

The Proposed Variation documents, and the accompanying Strategic Environmental Assessment Screening Report, Appropriate Assessment Screening Report and associated Determinations, will be available for inspection from Monday 24^th November 2025 to 12 noon on Tuesday 23^rd December 2025, inclusive, at the following locations:

1. Online at https://consult.galway.ie/; or
2. Planning Office, Áras an Chontae, Prospect Hill, Galway, H91 H6KX (Monday-Friday 9am-4pm); or
3. Galway County Council Area Offices and at each Branch Library during normal opening hours.

Written submissions or observations in respect of the Proposed Variation No. 1 and associated documents may be made to the Planning Authority during the period 24^th November 2025 to 12 noon on 23^rd December 2025.

Written submissions or observations should be clearly marked ‘Proposed Variation No.1 to the Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028’ and must be submitted either:

in writing and addressed to:

In respect of making a submission or observation please note the following:

Submissions/observations shall be made through one medium only and should include:

• Full name and address/email of person making submission/observation
• Details of organisation/community group/company which you represent where relevant

All submissions/observations will be published on the Council’s consultation portal following GDPR compliant redaction. Submissions will also form part of the statutory Chief Executive’s Report presented to the full Council, which will be available to view online.

Please ensure that your submission does not contain vexatious, libelous or confidential information, including third party personal data without consent. Galway County Council reserves the right to redact any submission that does not comply with this requirement. Any personal data will be treated as confidential.

All submissions/observations received with respect to the Proposed Variation made to the Planning Authority up to 12 noon on the 23^rd December 2025 shall be published on the Galway County Council consultation portal within 10 working days of their receipt by the Council and will be taken into consideration before the making of the Proposed Variation.

It should be noted that submissions can only be considered if they relate to an element of the proposed variation and any submission that does not relate to the proposed variation will not be considered.

LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
