Galway Metropolitan Area Garraun Urban Framework Plan

30/7/2021

A Chara,

With reference to the above draft development plan, I wish to make the following submission in relation to the proposed development.

I have lived on this road all of my life and my parents are residents here. I have recently purchased a site to build my own home, in order to be near my family and build my own home in this rural setting.

Having been granted planning permission in February 2021 for a house suited to this rural landscape, I have now been made aware that my site will be surrounded by roads and housing estates, thereby cutting me off from my community and my locality.

After undertaking a lengthy planning process and purchasing a site I now find that the home I was looking to build will no longer be possible as the surrounding area and the landscape in which I had planned to live will have been completely altered by this development.

The privacy and security of the home I have worked so hard to be able to build will be compromised by this development. For myself and the other residents of Cartron, we would need assurances that a buffer zone be retained between our homes and this new development, in order to preserve the integrity of our dwellings.

Vehicular access to Oranmore via the Coast Road is essential for travel to work and to socialise with my friends and family in Oranmore village. Also, I appreciate the beauty of this scenic coastal route that I use daily and I do not want to be denied the use of this road.

The increased cost incurred by the proposed 18km round trip to and from the village, as well its impact on our local environment is unacceptable.

It is important for this community that vehicular access under Cartron Bridge to the Coast Road is maintained. This needs to be reconsidered before any permission is granted for this new development.

Signed: Thomas Mulveen
