NOTICE OF MATERIAL ALTERATIONS TO THE DRAFT GALWAY COUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2022-2028 SECTION 12- PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT 2000 (AS AMENDED), PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS 2001 (AS AMENDED), PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT (STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT) REGULATIONS 2004-2011.  


Notice is hereby given that the Members of Galway County Council following a Special Council meeting concluding on the 13th of January 2022, having considered the Draft Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028 and the Chief Executive’s Report in respect of the submissions received, have resolved in accordance with Section 12 (6) and (7) of the Planning and Development Acts 2000-2020, that the Draft Plan be amended. 

The proposed amendments constitute Material Alterations to the Draft Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028.  

Galway County Council has screened the Proposed Material Alterations and determined that certain alterations require full Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and certain Material Alterations require Stage 2 Appropriate Assessment (AA). In accordance with Section 12(7)(aa) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), the Screening for SEA and AA Determinations, a copy of the proposed Material Alterations to the Draft Plan, the SEA Environmental Report (which includes information on the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing relevant alterations and has been informed by Strategic Flood Risk Assessment) and the AA Natura Impact Report will be available for public inspection during normal opening hours from the 3rd February 2022 to the 4th March 2022, inclusive, at the following locations:

  • The Planning Office, Galway County Council, Áras an Chontae, Prospect Hill, Galway (9:00 –16:00 Monday to Friday);
  • All branch libraries in the County during normal opening hours and subject to Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time.

Observations or submissions regarding the Material Alterations to the Draft Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028 and/or SEA Environmental Report and/or AA Natura Impact Report are invited from members of the public and other interested parties.  

You can make an observation or submission via the following options only: 

  • Online by registering on https://consult.galway.ie/ where you can then make a submission on the draft chapters, appendix, environmental reports and maps; or
  • Via email to forwardplanning@galwaycoco.ie; or
  • In writing marked “Draft Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028 – MATERIAL ALTERATIONS” to the Forward Planning Department, Galway County Council, Áras an Chontae, Prospect Hill, Galway.

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed Material Alterations, the associated Screening for SEA and AA Determinations, SEA Environmental Report and the AA Natura Impact Report may be made no later than 5:00pm on 4th March 2022 and will be taken into consideration before the making of the Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028. 

In making your comment on the Material Amendments, please indicate the specific Material Alteration Reference(s) you are referring to in the body of your submission.

Late submissions will not be accepted. 

To assist the public in engaging in the process the plan making team will be available for a telephone consultation by appointment (phone 091 509396 and quote Material Alterations), during the four-week public display period.  

Galway County Council will treat all personal data you may give as confidential. We will retain your data for no longer than is necessary for the purpose of this County Development Plan and in accordance with Galway County Council Retention Policy and the relevant Data Protection Legislation. 

Please note that all submissions will be made available for public viewing on the Council’s consultation website during the plan-making period and will also form part of the statutory Chief Executive’s Report to be presented to all Elected Members.
