Installation of CCTV for the prevention of litter and illegal dumping at Bringbank sites

Galway County Council is undertaking a public consultation on the provision of CCTV cameras.

 

We are implementing the installation of CCTV for the prevention of litter and illegal dumping at the following bring bank sites-

The CCTV cameras are for the sole primary purpose of preventing litter and illegal dumping and enforcement of the Litter Pollution Act, 1997, and the Waste Management Act 1996. This initiative will adhere to the Codes of Practice for the Operation of CCTV for the Purposes of Prevention, Detection and Prosecution of Litter and Waste Offences.

Your feedback is important to this process, and we look forward to hearing from you. All submissions will be considered before the CCTV Cameras are finalised.

Please note public consultation regarding CCTV installation has already been carried out on the following bringbank sites;

Palace Grounds Public Carpark (Tuam Leisure Centre), Public car park Station Road, Loughrea, Kinnicha Road, Gort and Public car park, Carraroe.

Submissions/Observations:

Galway County Council hereby invites any interested parties to make submissions or observations regarding the, the proposed installation and use of CCTV cameras at the above locations electronically via the website or in writing to the Environment Department between 21st August 2026 until 4th September 2026. (both dates inclusive).  The deadline for receipt of all submissions is 4.30pm on 4th September 2026.

In respect of making a submission or observation please note the following: -

  • Galway County Council is subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act (as amended) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To assist us in complying with Data Protection and GDPR please include your name and contact details (and where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company etc., which you represent), on a separate sheet to the content of your submission/ observation. This processing of your personal data is lawful under Article 6 (1)(e) of the GDPR regulations. The Environment Data Protection Policy is available on the Council website.

Submissions or observations may be made either:

The deadline for receipt of all submissions is 4.30pm on 4th September 2026 .
