Long Point, Loughrea, Outdoor Amenity Enhancement Project
A Design Team led by Helena McElmeel Architects, in partnership with Galway County Council, is preparing a masterplan for the enhancement of the public spaces and facilities at the Long Point, Loughrea. As part of the project the team is actively working with the local community through public consultation to understand and incorporate local needs and visions for the amenity. A public consultation ‘drop-in’ event will be held in Loughrea library on Wednesday 25th January from 4 to 7 pm.
An online public consultation survey can be accessed at
closing on Thursday 2nd February.
As part of this engagement the team is running a children’s art competition in which we are inviting local schools and school children to get involved by submitting art / poetry / prose on their vision for the future of Long Point in postcard size. Similar competitions for other public space projects have produced a great response and some imaginative entries.
Template postcards are downloadable here.
The competition is open from first class to sixth class. There will be an overall prize of a Samsung tablet, and age group prizes of € 20 and € 10 book vouchers.
The closing date for entries will be Tuesday 24th January, and can be submitted via email email@example.com
Entries will be exhibited here, on Galway County Council's consultation portal, and in Loughrea library, with an opening event scheduled for Wednesday 25th January, and we would like to invite all children, parents, and teachers to come along for the announcement of winners at 6.30pm, and to take part in the consultation event.
